Should I Have a Mic Hole Installed?
It is a matter of taste but we do suggest installing a mic hole if you play bars, clubs, theaters; any place where a sound person would mic your bass drum. You don't want some sound guy cutting a hole in your head with his pocket knife.

Will a Mic Hole Change The Sound?
YES - Many rock players do prefer the quick release of air when they kick the drum. Remember most professionl sound people can achieve a great sound with any drum. Even drums made of cardboard!

Placement Info & Chart

We allow you to choose the placement of your mic hole, just like the time on a clock. Mic holes should be placed at least 1" to 3" from the edge. We visually place the mic holes when possible. Keep in mind how the hole placement will effect your logo or visual graphic. Remember some of our VividHead Catalog designs can be rotated for better hole placement. For Example a hole installed by us at 2 o'clock can be turned by yourself to the 4 o'clock when you mount the drumhead.

– Mic Hole Placement Chart
We can install one to nine holes in some drumheads. Many patterns can be achived. Check out the chart for all mic hole installation possibilities - VIEW CHART

Can I Install The Mic Hole Myself?
Yes - But we do suggest letting us do the installation because we use professional tools that let us accurately install the mic holes. If we make a mistake we fix it (remake the drumhead) If you mess up the installation you will need to cut the hole larger or order a new drumhead.

Templets and Installation Tools
• You could install a HOLZ Snapperz. This is the easiest way to install a hole and you don't need to have perfect cutting craft. View HOLZ Installation Instructions
• HOLZ Ltd makes the "Speed Cutter". We have never used this tool but they say it works well. We do not sell the speed cutter. Try your local drumshop.
• Aquarian makes "Port-Holes" Support Rings. Available in black or white in a 5” size.
• We suggest using sharp NEW xacto knife blades when cutting. Go slow to make the cleanest cuts.
• There are other ways to install mic holes. We suggest doing a search on one of these Drum forums for answers: DrumForum.org, Drumsmith.com
